Farm Event - Ram selection to maximise lamb growth rates from forage

Thistleyhaugh Farm, Longhorsley, Morpeth, Northumberland, NE65 8RG

Tuesday 08 August 2023, 3:00pm – 6:00pm

As RamCompare, the industry’s commercial progeny test for terminal sires enters its eighth season, it enters an exciting phase with the latest breeding values for abattoir traits now available online. Join us at Thistleyhaugh, one of our RamCompare trial farms, along with Harry Sordy from our North East Beef and Lamb Monitor Farm to hear how this new genetic information can be used to find the most profitable sires as we debate the importance to carcase quality relative to speed of finishing, on a farm that strives to optimise lamb growth rates from forage.

Attendees will be able to take part in a simulated ram sale and hear how the lessons learnt from progeny testing terminal sires can be applied to maternal breeds.

We will be joined by Emily Grant, from Forrit Consultancy, who will explain how to make the most of the lambs genetic potential by finishing lambs off red clover. She will discuss establishment, management and transition of stock.

A light supper and refreshments will be served so please advise us of any special dietary requirements.
